Drewsland tense after murder suspect is killed

The police are keeping a close watch on sections of Drewsland in Kingston 20 following reports of rising tension.

The community has been on edge since an incident on Davidson Avenue Thursday in which a man was shot dead and three persons injured.

The dead man was identified as 19-year-old Aundre Green, otherwise called 'Roundhead' of a Top Drewsland address.

Two women, one of whom was travelling in a car which was being driven by Mr. Green were taken to hospital.

Another man who was in the car fled.

A police source revealed that Mr. Green was arrested and charged in connection with a murder committed earlier this year.

He was out on bail.

Sounds a bit like "jungle justice". RichD's question is a very interesting one. Because of the 'code of silence' in the garrison communities, I wouldn't think the police knows the whereabouts of every wanted criminal, but it does show the bad guys know where to find whomever they are looking for.

TG: Would you happen to know if the JCF uses undercover police officers? Just curious...

LOL.should I answer unda cova can mean soething else in Jamaican.
My short is yes...
because in the Ms. English kidnapping case, evidence was given that a cop had gone under cover
...long answer....
not effectively because they always scream about the public not coming forward to give information and even when they do, not turning up to give evidence.
In my mind more effective use of undercover policing would help to solve more crimes.

Well, that's what I'm thinking, especially if this administration (and whomever the new commissioner turns out to be) really want to get a handle on crime. I can easily see how the public would be reluctant to come forward with information. After all, that is like signing one's own death warrant but for sure, "penetrating" some of these garrison communities using specially trained undercover officers should be explored. From a distance, it seem the bad guys have better information gathering 'intelligence' and make more effective use of it than the cops. The percentage of murder cases solved by the police (can't remember the exact number right now) is abysmal.

BTW, when I was in JA this past Spring, I was surprised to see some cops still carrying 38's. What's up with that???

Man charged for murder found dead
Friday, 16 November 2007
The charred remains of a man were found in Westmoreland on Thursday.

He is 23-year-old James Barnes of Lime Tree Lane in Hendon Norwood.

Family members used the shoe to identify the body which was found by residents on Thursday.

He was reportedly kidnapped after appearing in court on Wednesday.

Mr. Barnes was charged in connection with a triple murder which occurred on Felicity Drive in Montego Bay last year.

Just last week, the police placed a $million bounty on the head of the other man Cedric Murray, who was said to be involved in the killing.
